Formula one: We need time to progress: Mercedes

BRACKLEY: Mercedes GP team needs time to develop into one of the top contenders on the Formula One grid, according to the team’s motorsport boss Norbert Haug.

“I am not speaking about two years from now, but a longer period of time,” Haug told the Autosport magazine. “If you achieve it in less than five years without throwing money at it, which teams did in the past, then you are very special. I think the most important point is that we are focused despite the long road ahead of us.”

With seven-time champion Michael Schumacher in the team, many would have assumed that Mercedes would have been more competitive than they have been. However, the team has faced a frustrating time.
