In what is the first Indian ministerial visit since November 2008, Chidambaram will have bilateral talks with Interior Minister Rehman Malik. Both leaders and their counterparts from the region will discuss combating terrorism.
Chidambaram will ascertain progress made by Pakistan in investigating the leads provided in the 10 dossiers submitted regarding the Mumbai attacks.
Earlier in the day, India had announced the release of four Pakistani prisoners as a goodwill gesture ahead of the Indian Home Minister's arrival in Islamabad.
The prisoners who had been held in various jails across the state of Gujrat will be repatriated from the Attari land border in Punjab and handed over to Pakistan Rangers on June 30.
Pakistan had released 17 Indian prisoners on Wednesday on the eve of the meeting between foreign secretaries of the neighbouring countries in Islamabad.
