KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the Home Ministry, Interior Ministry, Ministry of Defence, Sindh IG, Attorney General and other law enforcement agencies on a petition seeking recovery of a missing student of NED University.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro heard the case. Abdul Moiz's lawyer argued that on the night of June 3, plainclothes officers raided a house in the FB Area and picked up Abdul Rehman, who is still missing.

A petition has also been filed in the city court for the recovery of the missing students. Abdul Rehman has a BE degree from NED University and is now pursuing a master's degree from the same university.

Earlier, he was taken into police custody when he went to visit his relatives in Taxila. However, a petition was filed in the Lahore High Court after which the police released Abdul Rehman at Hassan Abdal. After which the case was withdrawn.

However, Abdul Rehman is missing again. Therefore, the court should issue an order for the recovery of Abdul Rehman.

The DSP concerned said that the case has been registered and is being investigated. Petitioner's counsel stated that our statement was not taken. The court ordered that the statement of the petitioner be recorded and an inquiry be started in that direction.

The court directed that only a DSP level officer should investigate the case. The bench said police should start investigation by recording the statement of the petitioner. The apex court of Sindh issued notices to the interior ministry, defense ministry, home department, IG Sindh, attorney general and other law enforcement agencies and directed them to produce the student.

Dr Asim moves SC over jurisdiction
of accountability court

The Sindh High Court granted the request of Dr Asim Hussain for an urgent hearing of the petition about the jurisdiction of the accountability court after the amendment in the NAB Ordinance.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro heard Dr Asim Hussain’s petition regarding the jurisdiction of the accountability court after an amendment in the NAB Ordinance.

Anwar Mansoor Khan appeared in court on behalf of Dr Asim Hussain. A petition seeking transfer of reference from the Accountability Court after amendment in the NAB Ordinance is pending. Prosecutor NAB said they have already submitted a reply in one petition and have to submit a response in the other.

Anwar Mansoor Khan stated that cases have been pending since 2016. An earlier petition had been pending for three years. Then it became infructuous. I appear on every date, but this attitude is beyond comprehension. The accountability court cannot hear a case after amendments to the NAB rules.

The court granted Dr Asim Hussain’s request for an urgent hearing and fixed August 9 as the date of the hearing. The court remarked that it was giving a deadline to the NAB and would issue a verdict soon after hearing them. The court sought a reply from NAB at the next hearing.
