Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has assured the compressed natural gas (CNG) producers of his full support for resolving the issues faced by the industry.
The minister gave the assurance in a meeting with a delegation of the All Pakistan CNG Association, led by Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha.
Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) chairman, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman and senior officers of the Finance Division attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed the proposal of using CNG as a fuel to reduce the import bill and minimise carbon emissions.
The minister asked as to why the CNG industry could not bring gas to meet its needs and what were the obstacles in the way?
“It is unfortunate that the CNG industry was not facilitated in bringing gas, which could reduce the fuel import bill and support the country’s economy,” he remarked.
Briefing the finance minister about the problems faced by the CNG sector, the delegation requested him to allow and facilitate the CNG industry in importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) at its own risk and experience to meet the needs of the industry.
They also requested the minister to restore gas supply to the CNG filling stations and immediately open them in Punjab, which had been closed for the last seven months
It would save the public from the impact of rising oil prices in the international market, they said.
