Agri varsity might not be able to pay salaries

PESHAWAR:

After University of Peshawar (UoP), Islamia College University and University of Engineering Technology Peshawar (UET), Agriculture University Peshawar will also not be able to pay its employees this month due to the non-payment of grant promised by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government amid severe financial crunch.

The Agriculture University Teachers Association has demanded of the government to release funds for the university as promised to enable it to pay salaries and pensions of its employees before Eid.

“The provincial government has failed to release Rs422 million under bailout package announced by it despite the fact that yesterday UoP and UET were provided funds enabling them to pay their staff but Agriculture University was once again ignored,” said President of Teachers Association Dr Bashir Ahmad while talking to The Express Tribune.

Public sector universities have been in the grip of a severe financial crisis in the province for a variety of reasons.

Official sources said that the K-P government announced a Rs1.6 billion bailout package for universities in the province but funds have not been released so far.

It is worth mentioning here that nearly all public sector universities have been in the clutches of a financial crisis.
