Rescue 1122 conducted a mock exercise on the west bank of River Chenab on Saturday to deal with a possible flood situation. The Muzaffargarh and Multan teams jointly demonstrated their skills and preparations for dealing with flood hazards.
Deputy Commissioner Muzaffargarh Ali Annan Qamar attended the exercise as chief guest. Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Shahrukh Cheema, Assistant Commissioner Muzaffargarh Jamil Shah, District Emergency Officer Dr Hussain Mian and PDMA Coordinator Irfan Sial were also present.
Rescue teams demonstrated medical first aid, scuba diving, line search, swimming, diving, rescuing a drowning person and catching snakes.
Stalls were also established by Civil Defense, the health department, the livestock department and welfare organisations such as the Doaba Foundation and FDO.
Rescue 1122 personnel also set up stalls at the Incident Command Post, where the DC was briefed on the functionality and use of disaster response and medical equipment.
District Emergency Officer Dr Hussain Mian briefed the DC about the preparedness of Rescue 1122 workers and informed him about the most vulnerable places to flooding in Muzaffargarh.
Talking to the media on the occasion, the DC described the performance of Rescue 1122 as impressive and said that the purpose of such exercises was to prepare all institutions ahead of time to accurately assess their capabilities and improve any shortcomings.
He added that exercises aimed to test equipment and assess the performance of the rescue teams in addition to improving liaison with the relevant departments in case of a possible flood.
