Murder probe far from over, say police

Adopted son of deceased woman cites panic for disappearing

LAHORE:

Police are continuing investigations into the death of Farah Mazhar, the daughter of late businessman Seth Abid, from various angles, including the possibility of homicide, suicide and accidental shooting.

SSP Investigations Imran Kishwar said on Monday that the incident was still a ‘mystery’ and police were investigating the matter. He said that it was not yet clear if the woman’s adopted son Fahad Mazhar was the killer and he had not made any such statement on the record.

Meanwhile, the postmortem report of the deceased reportedly has pointed out only one fatal injury.

According to the report, the abdomen of the victim had injuries caused by to the entry of a bullet and due to the course of projectile.

An investigations officer (IO) said while talking to The Express Tribune that the matter has become a mystery as the circumstantial evidence, crime scene, character of the prime suspect and the modus operandi were not aligned to each other.

He said the victim had only one bullet injury in her stomach and the cause of death is excessive bleeding and hemorrhage. It is unusual to commit suicide by shooting in the abdomen. The official continued that Fahad had become a suspect because an effort to manipulate the crime scene was made and he had also disappeared from the scene for quite some time.

When grilled by police, he claimed that he had panicked.

He added that the possibility of accidental murder was also being considered as the crime scene pointed towards a scuffle before the shooting.
