Karachi gang war: Imran fears economic meltdown
The continued economic slide, coupled with the breakdown of law and order in Karachi, would lead to an economic collapse, a handout quoted chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf Imran Khan as saying on Saturday.
According to him, the national economy “is in a state of stagflation with little or no economic growth and high inflation”. The PTI chief said that electricity shortfall in Faisalabad alone resulted in massive unemployment. “If the current chaos and gang warfare is not controlled in Karachi…Pakistan faces imminent economic collapse…Loans amounting to Rs5 trillion, which were acquired over the past 60 years, have doubled to Rs10 trillion since the government came to power. How can a country with 80 per cent of the population on the fringe of extreme poverty repay the loans borrowed by our corrupt leaders through indirect taxes? There is a limit to taxing the poor through indirect taxation.”
Imran Khan said the sooner “this government is removed from power, the greater the chances of Pakistan’s recovery”.
Meanwhile, PTI’s Information Secretary Omar Sarfraz Cheema condemned the latest spate of bloodshed in Karachi.
A handout quoted Cheema as saying that the situation effectively exposed the government’s incompetence and its lack of will to deal with the Karachi situation.

@wizz Bangladesh is not 3 times richer than Pakistan. Look at any indicator except education Bangladesh is behind. There is more corruption there because most of the money is aid from western countries. Bangladesh is no model for Pakistan, nor is India, nor is Saudia and nor is China. Pakistan has to develop its own vision and model. Pakistan is the pits at the moment and the main "vision". At the moment politicians are trying to stay in power by by being representatives of "ethnic groups" who they feed by fear mongering so people have become scared of their own shadows. So people celebrate "topi day", give new names to provinces, or propose new provinces like "pothoharistan", Multanistan or Tharistan to name a few possibilities. Karachi is the sad logic of "nationalist" politics. The promoters of this vision are trying I think, to keep power by hook or by crook but the present politicians are burying their own grave. Leave this primitve approach - ethnic politics is harks to the past, not a global future! The system's last hope is a person like Imran Khan. He will bring change without rocking the boat. He at least has a vision and stands for some principles. The Alternative is a revolution that will make Iraq, post Saddam, look likes a proverbial piece of cake.I think all the Pakistani's can formulate a dream, a hope and a vision. Dream it and follow it. Maybe one step on the way is PTI.

I am not a young man here I am a middle aged person. Imran Khan is the only leader who is true honest and brave leader in Pakistan. I think these youth has found one of best leadership after 3 decades. These youth have a right to make their own choice. Imran is the only hope for people of Pakistan.

strong text I lived in karachi and lahore throughout my whole life, I also know like Imran khan about Behind he Scene. Every Government will be incompitant in karachi, as the local party is well organized and rich in weapons, supporters and finance. They have indian supports thus taking action will result in several hundred deaths in a flash. Imran khan the only Leader has power to negotiate with MqM in karachi and then slowly cleaning out everything from Mini Pakistan.
I understand the desire people have to support Imran Khan. He is perhaps less corruptible than the people at PPP, MQM, PML-N, PML-Q, ANP, etc. But the real question is, what is the alternative Imran Khan offers? What kind of man is he? How has he represented himself?
I am not saying that he is not a less corrupt person but to me I just see another demagogue. Another politician who will lie to us to get votes. Imran Khan continues to have his little dharnas against drones without actually going to FATA and hearing the plight of the people there. He has not once made any effort to understand their problems and the fact the Taliban and other terrorists are ruining their lives. To him, he sees the average Pakistani who is bred on the lies of Zia's times and the awful influence of the Wahabis on Pakistan and he just says, "I want them to vote for me so I will lie to them to make them happy."
Imran Khan therefore is not a courageous man. He is not able to stand up for the truth. He is just another populist. He may or may not be the best of all the evils out there but please by no means look at as the man to fix Pakistan's problems.

First of all I applaud your willingness to put your money where your mouth is. However it is easy to see that people like you are NOT the primary funding source for Imran Khan. Let's just calculate" 10,000 people giving $10 per month amounts to $1.2 million per year. This is definitely not enough to run a national party and support so many dharnas attended by thousands of people.
3 main stream parties ANP, MQM and PPP are doing nothing and its fact these parties are responsible. They dont want to resolve issue. We are munafiq no one is ready to say anything against there leaders or parties. Go and ask any Muhajir Sindhi Punjabi balochi and pashtoon who is doing this killing they will blame on others. And same thing is being done by political parties. We dont see Pakistan as a whole. N is main opposition party should play role or should dissolve Punjab government. Nabeel Gabol should resign. ANP and MQM should resign from the government this would shake the government Once you will shake this government then they will realize. People and media think that Imran should do dharna's in Karachi against killings. My question is he did same against drones and he has been continuously speeking against drones but we are still having drone attacks why WHY because Government is not doing anything to stop these attacks. Then how it is possible that his dharna in Karachi would dramatically change the situation of Karachi. Infect Army would fail if government wont try to stop. there can be one position where he can held a dharna in Karachi only if people of Karachi call him show him some support.

Imran is right when he says that 'Pakistan faces imminent economic collapse'.
The reason is not Karachi. The actual reason is the withdrawal of billions of aid by the US. Imran should stop pulling wool over the eyes of people. It is the US aid that has been sustaining our economy since 1950s. Let's not forget that.
If Imran becomes the leader of Pakistan, US will stop all the aid completely, due to his strong anti-American stance. Then we will see rioting on the streets for food and milk.
