Patients visiting the Civil Hospital faced immense difficulties as the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) failed to ensure power supply to the hospital since Thursday night.
Sources said that a huge tree fell on the premises of Civil Hospital, due to which the health facility's power supply was completely cut off. Resultantly, the patients admitted at the hospital faced severe problems in the sizzling hot weather.
According to the hospital management, two employees of Wapda Urban sub-division came at night and left at 7 in the morning, assuring the administration that the power would be restored by morning. However, more than 18 hours passed and the fault could not be fixed.
Patients admitted to the dialysis department, labour ward, medical ward and children's ward of the hospital are under immense trouble due to power outage.
An official of the hospital management said that IESCO Jhelum officials have been informed several times in writing and by telephone, but WAPDA officials are not taking power accuracy seriously, causing severe anxiety in patients.
The hospitalised patients and their families have urged the Prime Minister of Pakistan to take notice maintaining that why have they failed to fix the fault on a priority at the largest hospital in Jhelum district. They added that the performance of the WAPAD is a question mark on the performance of IESCO Circle management.
Citizens have demanded that the IESCO Chief Islamabad conduct an inquiry against the officers for their negligence. Strict departmental action should be taken against the responsible persons if negligence is proved, they added.
They demand that electricity should be restored immediately so that the problems of the patients can be reduced.
Meanwhile, Jhelum Deputy Commissioner Kamran Khan has said a country can only progress if its resources are adequate to meet the requirements of its population.
He was speaking at a meeting of the District Coordination Committee to review the monthly performance of the Population Welfare Department, Jhelum.
The official added that skilled and trained young people must take part in productive activities to bring the country on the path of progress.
District Population Welfare Officer Babar Zaheer gave an overview of the Population Welfare Department's efforts, including the distribution of contraceptives and organising awareness seminars.
The deputy commissioner instructed all departments, particularly the Department of Population Welfare, to concentrate on areas where resources are limited. He urged officials concerned to cooperate with each other to achieve this target so that to make Jhelum a role model for other districts become a role model for other districts in terms of performance.
