PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Saturday assured strict action against people involved in harassing women. Women harassment is an offence under Section 509 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and violators could be fined Rs500, 000 or three years of imprisonment, Hussain said, while talking to a delegation from the women rights organisation, “Asha”. The minister said harassment of women has been declared as a legal offence, while claiming that the law came to the rescue of the victims whenever a harassment incident was reported to the police. He said not only women but everyone else in the society has to be protected against harassment, while adding that the problem was sensitive and should be dealt cautiously.
