VEHARI:

Distributors in several districts of South Punjab, especially Vehari, have stopped supplying fertiliser at government rates.

Cotton and sugarcane crops are ready in Vehari and other districts of the region, and fertiliser is desperately needed.

The shortage of fertiliser is more acute in Vehari than in other districts of the region.

Farmers said that if fertilizer was not made available immediately, loss in crop growth would increase by 40%.

While talking to the media, District President of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Chaudhry Ali Waqas Hinjra, alleged that “the fertiliser mafia has gone out of control”.

He said that unannounced loadshedding by Wapda had made people’s life miserable.

“We demand of the government to immediately provide fertiliser to the farmers and end unannounced loadshedding of electricity,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Vehari, Mian Muhammad Rafiq Ahsan, said that timely supply of fertilizers to the farmers was the top priority of the government, and that measures had been taken to achieve this task.
