Popular television host and politician Aamir Liaquat Hussain, who passed away on Thursday at his residence in Karachi, was laid to rest in the compound of revered Sufi Saint Abdullah Shah Ghazi's shrine on Friday. The funeral prayer was offered after Asar prayers at Jamia Masjid Ghazi in the city's Clifton neighbourhood.
A large number of people belonging to all walks of life including prominent politicians ex-governor Imran Ismail, PTI MPA Khurram Sher Zaman, Jamal Siddiqui, MQMPakistan Reconciliatory Committee Chairman Dr Farooq Sattar, PML-N leader Nihal Hashmi and many others were present. The deceased televangelist had booked a grave for himself during his lifetime on the compound of the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi.
Aamir's parents, his first mother in-law and popular naat-khawan Khurshid sahib are buried in four of the graves. He wished to be buried next to his parents in the same cemetery, according to his will. PTI MNA Aamir Liaquat was found unconscious at his house situated in Khudadad Colony of the metropolis, according to his servant Javaid.
The 50-year-old was rushed to a hospital where he could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead. His death came as a shock to the media industry and people vented anger at the social media trolls who had hounded the TV host for his botched third marriage.
Aamir Liaquat's body handed over to family
The body of famous TV host and lawmaker MNA Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain was handed over to his family members for burial only after the Judicial Magistrate Naukar Abbas allowed it.
While police were insisting on conducting an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death, Aamir Liaquat's estranged family members who come only for his last rites insisted that a postmortem will delay the funeral.
The body was received by the late anchor's son and preparations for the last rites were conducted by Chippa.
