Police, UHS join hands on education, research programmes

Under agreement, police personnel will have allocated admissions in MPhil, PhD

An agreement was reached between the Punjab Police and the University of Health Sciences (UHS) to enhance mutual cooperation.

Under the MoU, the two institutions will enhance human resource development and cooperation in education and research.

Dr Javed Akram stated that UHS would facilitate the provision of medical facilities to police personnel in hospitals affiliated with UHS.

DIG Welfare Abdul Ghaffar Qaisrani said that according to the MoU, UHS will provide assistance to police in matters related to forensic sciences, while UHS seats will be allocated for police for admission in MPhil and PhD programmes.

UHS graduates and MPhil and PhD students will write research theses on topics related to criminology and both institutions will enact public awareness projects. Under the MoU, training sessions will be organized at UHS to build the capacity of investigating officers in the field of forensic science.

Dr Javed Akram appreciated the efforts of Punjab Police in maintaining law and order and acknowledged the sacrifices of Punjab Police personnel.

IG Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan, CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamiana, Additional IG Establishment BA Nasir, Additional IG Welfare Farooq Mazhar, Additional IG Operations Sahibzada Shehzad Sultan, Additional IG training Zulfiqar Hameed and other officers were present at the signing. At the end of the ceremony, commemorative shields were exchanged between IG Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan and Vice Chancellor University of Health Sciences.

Speaking on the occasion, IGP Khan said that Punjab Police is enhancing cooperation with educational institutions through MoUs to promote education and research. He added that the culture of research within the police was being promoted through partnership with educational institutions, not only enabling student internships in police offices, but also receiving high-standard research reports from students.

Rao Sardar Ali Khan said Punjab Police is fully aware of its social responsibilities besides the protection of life and property and prevention of crime.

The scope of the Punjab Police Internship Program will also be further expanded.
