Sindh IG Ghulam Nabi Memon directed the police to ensure the formulation and prompt implementation of a contingency plan involving extraordinary security measures at cattle markets, including those on Super Highway, ahead of Eidul Azha.
Huge amount of cash is transacted at cattle market and the traders and people coming to buy the sacrificial animals remain vulnerable to robbers.
"In terms of overall security matters, coordinated liaison with Pakistan Rangers Sindh and other law enforcement agencies should be given priority," he stressed. The IG added that with regards to concrete security and traffic measures, cattle markets should only be set up only at selected or designated places and all measures against illegal establishments should be effective.
He went on to say that all the main routes to and from the Super Highway cattle market must be surveyed by police stations in the surrounding areas and raids should be carried out under regular surveillance and identification in areas potentially affected by crime. "Patrolling, picketing and random snap checking on major highways and other routes should be tightened for the security of cattle carrying vehicles and traders.
Ghulam Nabi stressed that apart from setting up temporary police pickets to protect buyers and traders in cattle markets, there should be exceptional security and traffic measures at car/motorcycle parking lots.
The IG Sindh said that all possible steps should be taken for continuous liaison with the police stations concerned, including zonal and district wireless bases, Madadgar 15, as well as the officers and men engaged in carrying out orders under the cattle market contingency plan.
