Bored Ape Co-founder criticises Discord after hack worth 200ETH

NFT collection Bored Ape Yacht Club co-founder castigated Discord for server hack and NFT theft worth $358,962

Bored Ape Yacht Club Co-founder, Gordon Goner, lashed out at Discord after its server was exploited and NFTs worth 200 Ethereum ($358,962) were stolen from users.

On Saturday, Goner tweeted that the Crypto Community messaging application, Discord, was not working for Web communities. He said, “We need a better platform that puts security first”.

According to Decrypt, the Bored Ape Yacht Club acknowledged the exploit of NFTs on Discord with a tweet saying the team addressed the issue immediately. Yuga Labs, the team behind the NFT collection, stated that they were investigating the incident. However, users in the Crypto community believed the hack was the fault of Bored Ape Yacht Club Discord users.

Analyst OKHotshot said, “Don’t blame Discord for users getting socially engineered, having DMs open and clicking phishing links. Use the tool correctly first before blaming it.”

Founder of NFT collection, OpenAvatar, said that users “just need to use the technology better.”

This however, wasn’t the first time BAYC collection was attacked and stolen. Last month, the BAYC Instagram account hacked and a total of $2.8 million was stolen by sharing link to a scam website that exploited NFTs from users’ wallets.
