QUETTA:

A landslide killed two coal miners in Balochistan's Dukki district on Monday evening.

According to police sources, the two colliers were working deep inside a mine when the landslide hit them. Both the miners were dead on the spot.

Rescue workers and fellow miners reached the affected mine and retrieved the bodies of the victims. The deceased coal miners were identified as Murtaza and Salahuddin.

The bodies were shifted to district headquarters hospital Dukki.

The hospital administration handed over the bodies to the heirs after the completion of medico-legal formalities.

Landslides and other incidents inside coal mines of Dukki and other parts of Balochistan have claimed hundreds of precious human lives.

Such incidents have become the order of the day in Balochistan's Dukki district which has rich coal deposits.

Earlier on May 31, at least two people were killed in a landmine explosion in Balochistan’s Harnai district, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner Harnai Sardar Muhammad Rafique had said that the incident took place in Khost area of the district.

The unidentified accused had planted a landmine on the road leading towards the coal mines, the official had said. Two people were killed on the spot when their water tanker hit the explosive device planted on the roadside, he had added.

Last year, three coal miners were shot dead in the same district after unidentified armed men opened fire on them.

According to the Balochistan Levies personnel, three miners – Juma Khan, Rehmatullah and Izzatullah – were left dead on the spot when assailants opened fire at Amanullah Taran's coal mine at Zalawan in Shahrag area of Harnai in the wee hours.
