Degree Recognition: PMDC, Punjab govt to discuss new seats and colleges

LAHORE:

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and the Punjab government will meet on Monday to discuss the status of four new medical colleges and 950 students, a Health Department official told The Express Tribune.

The four colleges were set up last year in Sialkot, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal and Gujranwala with room for 100 students each while a total of 550 new seats were created in existing medical colleges in the Punjab. But the new colleges and seats were never approved by the PMDC, which says that the Punjab government didn’t follow the required procedure for doing so.

The UHS vice chancellor and the Health Secretary and council officials will try and reach a solution on Monday, said the Health Department official.

The PMDC registrar confirmed the agenda of the meeting but added it was too early to say whether or not the council would accept the Punjab government’s recommendations.
