SHC stops construction of cattle market

Court adjourns hearing after issuing a restraining order

The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the administrator of the cattle market, SHO Sachal police station and others to stop the building of a cattle market on the land of ICI Staff Cooperative Housing Society.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi heard the petition against setting up a cattle market on ICI Society land.

The petitioner's counsel stated that the society has been registered since 1971 and was allotted 20 acres of land at 49A Scheme 33 Gulzar Hijri. The Cantonment Board Malir has been trying to set up a cattle market at the said place since 2020. However, the Supreme Court had also stopped the setting up of cattle market on June 11, 2020.

There is a boundary wall around the society, and development work is going on, but efforts are being made to set up a cattle market on society's land again. Therefore, it is requested that the administrator be restrained from setting up the cattle market on society's ground.

While issuing a restraining order on setting up a cattle market on the society's land, the court adjourned the hearing.

PTI workers file plea against 'police harassment'

The Sindh High Court has issued notices to Sindh Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and IGP on a petition against harassment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers.

The SHC heard a petition filed by PTI Karachi General Secretary Saifur Rehman against harassment of PTI workers. The petitioner's counsel stated that cases were registered in Soldier Bazaar and Ferozeabad police stations during May 25 protest.

The number of accused in the cases is not specified. A case has been registered against 600 to 700 unknown suspects in Soldier Bazaar police station. Similarly, the case registered at Ferozeabad police station also includes the names of 100 to 120 suspects including Ali Zaidi and Bilal Ghaffar.

Such cases are blank checks for the police. Workers' homes are being raided throughout the city. The police are demanding bribes. This is political revenge.

The court issued notices to the Sindh chief secretary, secretary home department and IGP and sought reply from the parties on June 28.
