Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Friday said that laws regarding conciliation courts needed improvement, emphasising that the judiciary should inform the federal government of flaws in this regard.
Addressing a conference via video link, the chief justice discussed the benefits of commercial and conciliation courts, adding that he, in consultation with chief justices of high courts, had formulated a unanimous policy.
“We can make the arbitration system successful by taking necessary steps,” he said.
“The conciliation system needs to be made more efficient,” he added. “Comprehensive efforts are needed to make the arbitration system a success.”

Justice Bandial said that courts should create awareness among the people regarding the arbitration system. “The lower judiciary can play a role in training lawyers and judges to develop a conciliatory system” he added. “In this regard, the role of lower judiciary is important for the provision of administrative facilities.”
He said that the high courts were committed to the success of the arbitration system.
The top judge thanked all foreign dignitaries who attended the conference for their participation.
