Cricket: Morgan to captain England

LONDON:

Batsman Eoin Morgan has been named captain of England’s 13-man squad that will face his native Ireland in a One-Day International (ODI) in Dublin on August 25.

Morgan, who is the Twenty20 vice-captain, will lead an England team for the first time as several players have been rested ahead of the ODI series against India. Morgan is the first Irishman to captain England in over a century. Selector Geoff Miller said that the time was right to blood youngsters in the team.

“The squad involves a number of exciting young England players as we rest several players currently involved in the Test series against India,” he said.
