The Sindh government has decided to take strict action against encroachments on Malir Development Authority (MDA) and other government lands in the city and remove them at the earliest.
An important meeting in this regard was held with Karachi Commissioner, Muhammad Iqbal Memon in the chair on Thursday.
MDA Director General, Muhammad Sohail gave a detailed briefing to the commissioner about the encroachments on MDA land.
The commissioner was informed that more than 5,000 acres of MDA land, illegally occupied by mafia, is located in district west.
The commissioner directed the MDA to inform the deputy commissioners concerned about the details of these lands and submit a written report immediately so that these encroachments could be removed the soonest.
The commissioner directed the deputy commissioners to coordinate and cooperate with the MDA to carry out the operation against encroachments according to the law.
Deputy Commissioner West, Ghulam Qadir Khan Talpur, Deputy Commissioner Malir, Irfan Salam, director encroachments, Sindh, secretary board of revenue, senior officers of police, Rangers and revenue department, assistant commissioner were also present at the meeting.
Earlier, Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah had directed strict action against water theft, illegal buildings and encroachment on government lands in Karachi.
In a meeting chaired by chaired by the Sindh Chief Secretary, Dr Muhammad Sohail Rajput, it was observed that lands of MDA, Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and Lyari Development Authority (LDA) have been illegally occupied in different city areas and at different times.
The meeting decided to take stern action against encroachments on government lands and directed land owning agencies i.e. Malir Development Authority, Karachi Development Authority and Lyari Development Authority to submit their report by Friday so that an anti-encroachment plan could be devised.
