Last year, actors-turned-producers, Adnan Siddiqui and Humayun Saeed announced a collaboration with their Turkish counterparts. Previously, Pakistan and Turkey jointly announced the production of a historical drama series on the rule of Sultan Salahuddin Ayyubi, the founder of the Ayyubi Empire, which was earlier reported to be slated for a 2022 release.

However, due to unprecedented circumstances, Saeed has now shared that pre-production of Salauddin Eyyubi has now commenced. Sharing a video on his official Instagram handle, the Meray Paas Tum Ho actor penned, "So glad to share that our team and producers Dr Junaid Shah and Dr Kashif Ansari are working extremely hard and efficiently to bring Pakistan's biggest ever collaboration with Turkey - Salahuddin Ayubi - to life."

He went on to add, "As you can see, pre-production work is being done very professionally and at a fast pace so Insha Allah you will be seeing this series on your screens very soon. Proud to be associated with this project!"

Dr Kashif Ansari and Dr Junaid Ali Shah of Ansari and Shah Films, the production house handling the project, earlier sat down for a telephonic interview with Independent Urdu to speak about the series.

Shah explained that it will be a historical series divided into three seasons, with 34 episodes each. When asked about the cast of the historical drama series, Ansari shared that this is a joint effort between Turkey and Pakistan, and so the cast would include actors from both countries. Four well-known Pakistani artists are all set to feature in the upcoming Pak-Turk joint drama series on Salahuddin Ayyubi.

Ushna Shah, Adnan Jilani, Farhan Agha, and Ayesha Omar, were chosen in the first round of auditions that were held in Lahore and Karachi. Over 6,000 professional and budding actors had applied for the tryouts, but only 62 were short-listed for the Islamic warrior series, to be screened in Pakistan and Turkey simultaneously.
