In a bid to thwart the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) plans for sit-ins and rallies against the ruling coalition government, the Sindh Home Department has imposed Section 144 banning assembly of more than five people.
Though the notification of the home department stated that the Sindh government, in the wake of prevailing law and order situation after the recent terrorist attacks and a possible threat of acts of more such incidents of terrorism by anti-state elements, has imposed Section 144 across the province with immediate effect, its main target was more than obvious. According to a notification, issued by the Home Department, the decision has been taken on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police.

"Some political elements in association with anti-state people are planning to hold unlawful assemblies, take out rallies, stage sit-ins, block roads and highways, which will disturb the peace of the province and put the lives of common citizens at risk," the top cop of the province said.
Taking advantage of the situation, terrorists might strike and deteriorate the peace and order, he added.
Therefore, the Sindh government deems it necessary to impose Section 144 in the province with immediate effect to maintain peace and save lives of citizens by thwarting any untoward incident, the notification added.
