In reference to Friday’s attack on the police in Korangi area, Malik pointed out that the police in the city lacks funds. “They do not even have bulletproof jackets and are bound to travel in open vehicles,” he added.
“The police had been maintaining peace in Korangi before the attack, and it is disheartening to see that no one condemned the fact that the very people who were maintaining peace were targeted.”
He also promised that CCTV security cameras will be fitted in the troubled SITE area of Karachi within four weeks if the traders in the city agree to bear half the expenses.
He further added that the extortion mafia in Karachi has strong backing and a new campaign has been initiated under the additional Inspector-General to cope with it.
Commenting on the prevailing security situation all over the country, Malik said that different factions have a planned conspiracy and they are trying to destabilize the country by widening the distrust between the government and the people.

@Rehman Malik......."Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go"!!!
since the police is so poorly funded how about we get rid of 90% of our ministers and contribute their salaries, perks, police escorts and corruption amounts and use it to fund and train the police.
Lol @ Ano, so true. As Meera jee once said Pakistan has become a laughing stock in front of the world.
Police lack funds! dear minister you squander those funds for your own use or for your party that so impudently misgoverns the country.
This is no time for long term planning or thoughts. Time to save lives and military to take over. This is no time for politicians and their politics. Who is stopping the military?? Some other country or the politicians?? Either way its Fraud and crime on the nation!!!
GIVE ME CONTROL OF CITY FOR FIFTEEN DAYS ONLY WITH FULL POWERS THEN I WILL GIVE THEM THE 100 % RESULTS INSHALLAH
NOW after so much of Mayhem and bloodshed MR Rehmean Malik has found out about LACK OF FUNDS. I fail to understand what these press people are thinking and do not confront him when he throws this muck at us...
Everyone talks of fixing the symptom but no one wants to know the disease. Karachi shows us that our linguistic, ethnic and communal bonds are stronger than the bond as a nation. If we introduce a new political and governmental dispensation in place after dismantling the current one we will not find anyone with a common ground to be in a union. So in my view the problem is the system that is causing so much of misery is also the glue that binds... so if you want to fix the system you may not have a country.... Sounds crazy but dissect the problem and you may understand what I am saying.
Dear Mr. Rehman Malik:
You are wrong in saying that “The police had been maintaining peace in Korangi before the attack, and it is disheartening to see that no one condemned the fact that the very people who were maintaining peace were targeted.”
The fact is that when ever such ugly incidents were not occurred in Karachi, the Police, or the Rangers or FC was available to confront with target killers. Actually, these were the people to run away from the scene and they never picked up the dead bodies of the innocent people lying on the roads and streets of Karachi.
These dead bodies of the poor people are picked up by the staff of Edhi and Cheepa ambulances and it is evident from any or all TV footages.
Why don’t you admit the fact that most of the Police and Rangers personnel are deputed to provide securities to DPS’s, SP’s and other high ranking Police Officials as well as to Ministers and religious leaders. There were never there to protect the live and properties of the citizens.
You should admit the fact that it is because of you that the Police in the city lacks the funds and do not have the bullet proof jackets and are bound to travel in the open vehicles.
Please try to check that being as Federal Interior Minister what are your duties and then talk to the traders or media.
If the Provincial or the Federal Government fails in maintaining law and order situation it is the responsibility of the Provincial and Federal Interior Ministers and you two are suppose to step down. As there is no accountability in the country for the target killers, therefore, you are not also accountable.
police lack will and dedication to do this, let hand over karachi to army they will let you know how to do it, over night
I want to know will the camera`s work without power? Why spend on camera when they are not going work in the night which is when the killings happen?
Please for GOD sake DO some thing don't cry.If POLICE have not bullet proof jackets then who is responsible for that we people?Mr Pervez is absolutely right from where these Tyota Hi Lux and Prado’s and Land Cruisers purchas for SP?We want PEACE in KARACHI at any cost and its your duty to do as you elected by us.
Police lack funds
As citizens,we are grateful to police and others for all they are doing. And there will be full support for all steps they take to bring about peace in the city. BUT the police and others have to do more to bring about peace and security in the city. The economy is hurting and there is fear.
Have you seen the SP,SSP,DIG police drive around in Four Wheel Pajeros, Prados and Toyota cars.
And the police escorts they have.If police officers need police escorts, then citizens can never have confidence about safety /security
Once they start using Jeeps, there will be funds available...
no not again plz we are fed up of these reiteration! do some action...
Oh, it's a conspiracy? SHOCKING!!
