Officials for Hyderabad LG polls notified

ROs will issue the nomination papers from June 3rd while the candidates can submit the papers from June 8 to 11

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has notified the District Returning Officer (DRO), Returning Officers (ROs), and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) of the second phase of local government (LG) elections to be held on July 24 in Hyderabad district.

According to the notification, Regional Election Commissioner Ali Abdullah Khalid has been assigned the responsibility of DRO.

The notification informs that 26 ROs and 52 AROs are appointed for the 160 Union Committees (UCs) of nine Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs) of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC).

As per the LG elections schedule, the ROs will issue the nomination papers from June 3rd while the candidates can submit the papers from June 8 to 11.

The officers will publish the names of the candidates who had submitted the papers on June 13 while the scrutiny of the papers will be carried out from June 15 to 17.

The candidates will be given five days to file appeals against the decisions of the officers from June 18 to June 22 and the appellate authority would give decisions over the appeals by June 25. The revised list of candidates will be published on June 27 and the candidates can withdraw from the electoral contest by June 28.

The ECP will allot symbols to the candidates on June 29. The polling will be held on July 24 and the ECP will take four days to consolidate the results by July 28.

The notification issued by ECP said that a code of conduct banning all executive authorities in the federation and provinces from either announcing any development project or using state resources in the election which could influence the elections in favour of a particular candidate.

It warned that if any person in government service misused his or her official position to influence the result of the elections, he/she should be liable to be proceeded under the law.

Districts in respect of which election schedule of local government elections has been issued, no transfer and posting of government officers and officials, including autonomous bodies.
