RAWALPINDI:

Precious trees at the historic building of Radio Pakistan Rawalpindi have been cut down.
In this regard, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Senator Irfan Siddiqui has revealed that hundreds of valuable trees within the
premises of Radio Pakistan Rawalpindi have been sold at cheap prices.
In a letter to Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Chairman Faisal Javed, Senator Irfan Siddiqui said that that was a serious matter which should be included in the agenda of the next meeting of the standing committee.
Senator Irfan Siddiqui further disclosed that when the Radio Pakistan Director-General was approached over the matter, he said that the
trees were auctioned due to the financial crisis faced by the corporation.
Moreover, Senator Irfan said those responsible should be identified and punitive measures should be taken against them according to the law.
He said that strict accountability of the previous government should be held responsible which used to market their so-called billion
tree tsunami project but did nothing practically to safeguard trees.
Sources in Radio Pakistan Rawalpindi said that the new management of the radio cut down these valuable trees.

He said that the previous government should be held for the anti-environment criminal act.
