Rift between brothers results in murder

Woman’s marriage causes her siblings to become enemies

A man killed his brother over the issue of their sister’s marriage.

Police said that the sister of 31-year-old Irfan, a resident of Malikpur Chak No. 203 RB, had contracted a love marriage against the wishes of her brother.

However, the girl’s other brother, Sajjad Hussain, defended her sister’s right to exercise choice in the matter of whom she married.

Thus there developed a rift between the two brothers, and they would argue over the matter off and on.

Irfan wanted to persuade his brother Sajjad to severe relations with their sister and brother-in-law while Sajjad would vehemently reject his brother’s demand.

Irfan, nevertheless, persisted in demanding of his brother to do his bidding.

On Friday, the quarrel between the two brothers took an ugly turn, and Sajjad flew into a fit of rage and shot at his brother Irfan with a 30 bore pistol.

He was rushed to the Civil Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Upon receiving the information, the SHO of Mansoorabad, Sub-Inspector Khalid Kaliar, and the in charge of investigation, Ghulam Mustafa, reached the spot and handed over the body of the deceased to his heirs.

In March this year, a man had shot to death his teenage sister over a domestic dispute in Khurrianwala.

Nineteen-year-old Maria Bibi had been married a year ago to Hasnain Ali, a resident of Chak No. 235 RB in the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station.

On the fateful day, Maria Bibi visited her mother Kaniz Bibi.

During this time she had had a quarrel with his brother, Javed Iqbal.

The quarrel took an ugly turn, enraging Javed Iqbal to the extent that he lost his senses and shot his sister.

Rescue 1122 staff rushed her to a hospital where she died of her injuries.

Saddar police handed over the body of the deceased to her family after postmortem and filed a case against her brother under Sections 302 and 311 of the PPC.

The number of fratricidal killings has increased in some of the districts of the province over the past few years.
