KARACHI:

Federal Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar has assured the textile industry that every effort will be made to supply gas to the industrial units in order to boost the country’s economy. “Gas supply has been affected due to increase in consumer demand,” he said while chairing a meeting with Karachi’s textile industry, which discussed market access, support package, gas and energy supply and pending tax refunds. Industry representatives highlighted the challenges and issues faced by the textile sector, especially gas supply, sales tax and refunds. They requested for reducing the sales tax on textile raw material, especially cotton. They urged the minister to immediately address the challenges in order to give a boost to the industry.
