Hydel capacity to go up 14,000MW by 2026

Energy contribution of hydel electricity will rise to 57 billion units, increase of 20 billion units by 2026

Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Muzammil Hussain has announced that the authority’s installed hydel generation capacity will surge to 13,949 megawatts by 2026 with addition of 4,543MW following the completion of under-construction projects.

Talking to Wapda workers, Hussain said that the annual energy contribution of low-cost and green hydel electricity to the national grid would rise to more than 57 billion units with increase of 20 billion units by 2026.

Referring to the under-construction mega projects in the water and hydropower sectors, he stressed that Wapda had been playing a tremendous role in Pakistan’s development, being the guarantor of water, food and energy security.
