Harshvardhan willing 'to settle for a pre-owned Lamborghini as parents don't support him'
In 2020, Bollywood starlet Ananya Panday weighed in on the nepotism debate in the Indian film industry. Ananya, daughter of veteran Bollywood actor Chunkey Panday, shared that she had 'struggle' a lot in order to make her mark in the film industry.
The interaction between Ananya and Gully Boy aspiring actor at the time, Sidhant Chaturvedi, went viral on Twitter. The interview gave Twitterati one of the most famous memes of all time. Now, another star kid has found himself in a controversy over how he has to settle for a second-hand Lamborghini since his parents don't support him financially.
Harshavardhan Kapoor, son of celebrated Indian star Anil Kapoor, recently made headlines for starring in a Netflix crime drama, Thar. The film saw the father-son duo sharing the screen for the first time. However, Harshvardhan irked many with a statement he gave out in a recent interview with Mashable India.
Lamenting how he has to pay for his 'own sh*t', the 31-year-old actor said, “I hate to break it to the audience, but the reality is that my parents have no interest in paying for my sh*t. So, I wish you all were right and I was wrong.”
He continued saying, “I would have had ten times more than what I have but I buy my own stuff. It’s the sad reality of my life. Otherwise, you don’t think I would have had five cars as opposed to just one.” The Mirzya star also candidly admitted his desire to own a Lamborghini but will have to settle with a pre-owned luxury car as that will cost him around Rs 1 crore. He said for newer models, he would have to shell out around Rs 3 crore. "I'm actually a Lamborghini guy. I love that car but the new one is just too much. So I'd have to settle for a used, old Lamborghini Spyder."
After his comments, all hell broke loose. Social media users called Harshvardhan out for being privileged. Others joked they wanted his kind of financial difficulties.
Here's how Twitter reacted.
Earlier, talking about nepotism, Ananya owned up to it and said that she is happy to be Chunky Pandey’s daughter and that she got the opportunities easily.
She said, “I have always wanted to be an actor. Just because my dad has been an actor, I will never say no to an opportunity to act. My dad has never been in a Dharma film, he never went on Koffee With Karan. So it’s not as easy as people say. Everyone has their own journey and their own struggle.”
Moreover, sharing how she never takes things lightly, she said, “When SOTY 2 got delayed by a year, my dad actually didn’t even congratulate me till the film was released because that’s how fickle the industry is. That’s how dispensable people are. Anything can happen, it can get shelved, it can release after years and he knows that. Mine has been a lot of personal experience, I have seen my dad go through so many things that I don’t take anything too seriously. I overcompensate sometimes. I am so scared that people may say that ‘oh you are taking things too lightly’ so I will come extra early to places. I am so happy that I have this chance.”
