The East Judicial Magistrate declared the interim challan, filed in the case of abduction of Nimrah Kazmi, the teenage girl who contracted a freewill marriage, as unsatisfactory and directed Korangi SSP Investigation to replace the investigating officer.
East Judicial Magistrate, Javed Ali Korejo in Karachi City Court heard the case related to the kidnapping of Nimrah Kazmi, who married of her choice.
The investigation officer submitted the interim challan in the court. The FIR included provisions for underage marriage. The court declared the interim challan unsatisfactory.
The judicial magistrate remarked that the investigation officer (IO) had not verified Nimra Kazmi’s Form B with NADRA or the school. Twenty days have passed since the incident but the police have not made any progress. The IO made no attempt to determine the age of Nimrah Kazmi. Police did not even confirm the marriage certificate of Nimrah Kazmi and Shah Rukh. The IO also failed to recover the abductee. Police added underage marriage provisions, based on media reports.
The court remarked that the new IO should not be below than the rank of a DSP because the case is sensitive. The judicial magistrate ordered to complete the investigation and submit the challan by May 16.
According to police, a case of abduction of Nimrah Kazmi was registered at Saudabad police station. Nimrah Kazmi and Shah Rukh had also released a statement on social media after their marriage.
