Senior reporter for Express News, Shabbir Hussain, who passed away on Monday due to a cardiac attack, was laid to rest at his native town in Skardu on Tuesday.
Shabbir, 38, leaves behind his parents, widow, three daughters and two sons. His eldest daughter is 13 years old. Shabir Hussain, who joined the Express Media Group in 2007, was buried in the presence of thousands of mourners including relatives, journalists and people from political and social circles.
Earlier, the body of Shabbir Hussain was transported to Skardu from Islamabad via ambulance.
Shabbir Hussain was known for his dedication and professional and journalistic expertise. He was one of the most active team members of the Express Media Group. During his 15-year career with the Express Media Group, he worked on parliamentary, political and social issues, besides reporting extensively on health and environment and climate change issues. These responsibilities became a hallmark of his journalistic career.
Shabbir was well-mannered, kind-hearted and soft-spoken and above all a good human being. He was the sole breadwinner of his family.
The Express Group is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Shabbir and extends its condolences to his family.
"He was known for his dedication and journalistic expertise and was one of the most active team members. Shabbir has been reporting extensively on parliamentary, political and social issues," said Head of Central Assignment Department and Newsgathering Iram Ghani.
She said that “we are saddened by his sudden demise. It is a big loss for the organisation and the colleagues at large. We acknowledge his services and we will miss the company to work with”.
Director News Express News & Group Editor daily Express Ayaz Khan said that the Express Media Group lost a hardworking and sincere colleague. “Shabbir Hussain was a capable and honest journalist.
He remained associated with Express News since 2007 and reported on important national and international issues. We will always be proud of Shabir Hussain's journalistic services”.
Federal Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Tanveer Ilyas and other political and social figures expressed their condolences on the death of Shabir Hussain.
