CHAK JHUMRA:

A riot like situation was witnessed at the General Hospital Ghulam Muhammadabad on Monday where the relatives of a teenage girl, Afreen, who died due to alleged negligence by the doctors, allegedly vandalized the hospital and tortured doctors and staff there.

Police and hospital administration reached the spot and dispersed the protesters after negotiating with them.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against 33 people, including eight nominated suspects, on Tuesday for allegedly torturing doctors after the death of the teenager.

The relatives of the deceased said that they took Afreen, daughter of Mohammad Riaz, who had been suffering from some abdominal pain, to the General Hospital Ghulam Mohammadabad.

They said that an injection was administered to Afreen by one of the doctors after which her condition worsened.

They said they informed the doctor about Afreen’s condition, but the doctor, they alleged, had been busy on his mobile phone.

In the meantime, the teenager’s condition got even worse, culminating in her death.

Dozens of charged relatives of the deceased arrived at the hospital when they learned about her death where they allegedly manhandled the doctors and staff and indulged in vandalism.
