The Rawalpindi City Traffic Police have thrashed out a plan to take action against underage and unlicenced drivers and unregistered vehicles and illegal parking across the district.
Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi Naveed Irshad issued special orders to all circle and sector in-charges to take strict action against offenders across the city. Instead of challans, underage drivers will be detained at police stations and will be released only after taking written statements from their parents, the CTO said.
He said that circle in charges would be responsible for eradicating illegal stands and no negligence will be tolerated in this regard.
CTO Irshad also said wrong parking is creating hurdles in the smooth flow of traffic. He asked wardens and field officers to take strict action against wrong parking, adding that wrong parking which is one of the main causes of traffic mess on the roads would not be tolerated. He said that vehicles and motorcycles would be impounded in the police stations.
He further said that public service vehicles have a heavy responsibility to protect the lives and property of the passengers. He added driving a rickshaw or similar vehicles by underage and unlicensed drivers can lead to a major accident.
In addition to making the best traffic arrangements for the public, effective enforcement of traffic laws, maintaining traffic flow, preventing road accidents and protecting the lives and property of road users on highways have always been my top priorities, he said. Therefore, orders have been issued to all circle and sector in-charges for its implementation. Citizens are also requested to follow the traffic rules to avoid any legal trouble.
The CTO said that all-out efforts were being made to regulate city traffic, he said.
