Basirpur police claimed on Sunday to have arrested a man who had allegedly raped and killed a nine-year-old girl four days ago. Police also claimed that the accused had confessed the murder and rape.
According to SHO Anjum Zia, a nine-year-old girl was raped and killed in Manwala area of Basirpur four days ago. He said that DPO Faisal Gulzar had given him the task of tracing the accused.
SHO Anjum Zia said that he immediately set about achieving the target assigned to him and for this purpose he formed different teams. Meanwhile, plainclothes policemen mingled with the youths living in Manwala suburbs to gather information that could lead them to the accused, he said. The SHO said that police interviewed about 10 people who appeared suspicious to them, and out of these 10 people, a local resident Ali Raza appeared to them to be the most likely man they had been after.
Upon this lead, police conducted a traditional interrogation of Ali Raza who allegedly confessed to the rape and murder. He allegedly told the police that he killed his victim after raping her out of fear of being caught out. DPO Faisal Gulzar told The Express Tribune that he had given SHO Anjum Zia a week’s time to nab the perpetuator of this horrible crime, and that Basirpur Police worked day and night on the case.

On April 26, a nine-year-old child and a woman were allegedly raped in Thikriwala. According to police report, a nine-year-old child, a resident of 66 Fata Bazaar area of Millat Town Police Station, had been playing in the street when accused Ahmed lured her and took her to his Dera where he allegedly raped her.
In the other incident, a resident of Rasool Nagar area of Ghulam Muhammadabad had been waiting for a passenger van to return home from a market when an acquaintance of her, Arif Ali, passed by her on a motorcycle. Arif Ali stopped his motorcycle and offered the victim a lift home which she accepted, but the accused took her to an unknown location where he allegedly raped her.
Just a couple of days ago a man, along with his friend, allegedly raped his former daughter-in-law in Gujrat and tortured her to death. The suspects allegedly broke into the house of the victim in Nowshera Jalalpur Jattan village, raped her and then tortured her. The victim was shifted to the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital.
Upon receiving the report of the incident, Sadar Jalalpur Jattan Police Station lodged a rape case on the complaint of Lubna, a sister of the victim, against Fazal and an unknown accomplice of his under Section 375 on April 13, but Uzma died a few days later.
According to the plaintiff, the victim had been divorced by her husband nearly five years ago after which she was living in Nowshera Jalalpur Jattan. Her neighbour Ghazala had alerted the rescue service personnel about the incident who had shifted her to the hospital in a critical condition. The victim had adopted her sister’s son, eightyear-old Ali Raza.
