Transporters are reaping a bonanza and charging exorbitant fares from passengers to return to their hometowns from twin cities.

The rush of passengers at bus terminals has reached its peak. Passengers, leaving for native towns questions the performance of the regional transport authority over poorly maintained buses and poor transport facilities, overcharging and overloading.

Transporters are charging extra fare at Pirwadhai bus stand, 26 No Chongi bus stand, Faizabad bus terminal and Sawan bus berminal. Transporters are charging 30 to 50 per cent extra fare from passengers.

Public transporters ferry passengers from Rawalpindi and Islamabad to every part of the country.

During a survey, the passengers made a number of complaints against the district administration and the Regional Transport Authority.

Mohammad Murtaza, a passenger going to Sukkur from Pirwadhai bus stand, said that he had booked seats for himself and his family two weeks ago. However, when he reach the bus stand, it was found out that their seats have been allotted to someone else. He said that they were being asked for extra money for seats.
