A district court judge granted pre-arrest bail till April 29 to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) nine members of provincial assembly (MPAs) who are facing a case over allegedly attacking Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari, disrupting proceedings and damaging property on April 16 ahead of the election of the chief minister.
Additional District & Sessions Judge Yaseen Mohal summoned the police record on April 29 with a direction to the MPAs to join the investigation. The petitioners' counsel Amir Saeed Rawn implored the court that MPAs Khiyal Ahmed, Shehbaz Ahmad, Nadeem Abass, Mahinder Pall Singh, Ali Raza, Shujat Nawaz, Amar Yasir, Waris Aziz and Umar Farooq had been implicated falsely in the case.
He contended that the MPAs had nothing to do with the case, alleging that it was political motivated. A concocted story had been woven against them, the lawyer alleged.
He submitted that the legislators had fear of being arrested.
The counsel prayed the court that pre-arrest bail be granted and the police be restrained from arresting the applicants.
The judge summoned the case record of Qila Gujar Singh police and granted bail to the MPAs till April 29.
