Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan's member of the National Assembly Iqbal Muhammad Ali Khan died on Tuesday after suffering from cardiac complications.
Khan had been suffering from the illness for some time and had undergone heart surgery at a Karachi hospital last month, Express News reported.
The lawmaker's health continued to deteriorate following the procedure and he remained at the same hospital where he breathed his last today.
Political career
The MNA was first elected as a councillor from Karachi's Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighbourhood in 1987 in the local bodies elections.
He continuously won the National Assembly seat from the NA-256 constituency of Shah Faisal Colony in the years 2002, 2008 and 2013.
Khan also won from NA-240, Landhi area in the 2018 general elections on MQM's ticket.
During this time, he also served as a member of the different standing committees of the National Assembly as well as the federal minister of works and housing.
His funeral prayers will be offered at Jamia Masjid Farooqui, Gulshan-e-Iqbal near the deputy commissioner east's office and he will be laid to rest in the Essa Nagri graveyard.
PM condoles demise
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the lawmaker's demise.
He recalled that the MNA was a well-learned and people-friendly person and that his services for Pakistan and democracy will always be remembered, Radio Pakistan reported.
Shehbaz prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and patience for the bereaved family.
The premier also condoled with the leadership of MQM-P and party workers over the tragic loss.
