Civil society demands justice for Nazim Jokhio
Scores of people from different walks of life staged a protest outside the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday against the police and the alleged involvement of the Sindh government in supporting the killers of Nazim Jokhio.
The charged participants called for a transparent investigation in the Jokhio murder case and bringing perpetrators to justice accordingly. The demonstration was held on the call of Women Action Forum.
The civil society activists also held placards, chanting slogans of ‘Justice for Nazim Jokhio’.
They also demanded immediate support to the family and asked why Nazim Jokhio's wife backed down. They said that everyone knows that it is the duty of civil society to be the voice of the downtrodden. If police cover up the case, then they too are accomplice to the murder, speakers at the protest said.
“We want justice nothing else,” said Shireen Asad. She said that the civil society was standing with Jokhio’s wife as there was no one else who could support her due to fear of the killers.
Well-known lawyer and human right activist Jibran Nasir said that he was not there to criticize the [Pakistan Peoples Party] government. “We want to ask PPP’s workers and supporters dare to ask the leadership and stay with the old traditions of the party,” he urged.
Participants said that justice is not done in this country while the criminals roam free. Now the court is working round the clock. We demand that the culprit be punished and the case be decided.
Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Asad Butt, National Human Right Anis Haroo, Karamat Ali of PILER and others also spoke and demanded the government to provide justice to the family that no interest in pursuing the murder case.

They said that the killers were so powerful that a widow could not fight a legal battle against them.
Protesters also staged a sit-in at the press club. Demonstrators said that Nazim Jokhio's voice was the voice of Sindhis which has been suppressed.
They said that the leaders of political parties are visible only during elections. They promise to support and make claims of justice but we do not see justice anywhere nor do we see political parties after elections.
Participants said that this is the job of the feudal lords of Sindh. This is not only limited to one Nazim Jokhio but the PPP is a killer league. It has two faces. One of its faces is a killer face. Civil society also staged a sit-in at the press club and chanted slogans in favor of justice in Nazim Jokhio murder case.
In November2021, tortured body of Nazim Jokhio was found from the Malir farmhouse of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Jam Awais.
Jokhio had protested over foreign guests of the MPA and his brother, MNA Jam Abdul Karim, hunting the houbara bustard.
