KARACHI:

The newborn baby who was abducted from a private hospital in Gulberg has not yet been recovered. The investigation into the child abduction case has been transferred to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC).

The child’s mother says, “I don’t want any legal action against ladies who took away my small son, I just want my baby back.”

Sobia, the mother of abducted new-born Ahmed, said that when she was shifted to the room after the C-section a nurse along with a lady came to check the baby. Later at four o’clock in the morning on April 17, two women came to check the baby again.

Sobia said, she was unable to lift the baby as she had infusion cannula on her hand, so they picked up the baby and said, the baby has fever so she should be shifted to the nursery and left with the baby, Sobia said, adding, one of the women was a nurse, the other called herself a nursery doctor.

The mother wanted to go with them but they stopped her saying, she would not be allowed in the nursery.

The mother added, doctor said that after half an hour she will call her to take the baby. “My mother went to the reception and inquired about the baby. The staff there replied, ‘don’t worry, she’ll call me in half an hour and I’ll tell you’, Sobia mentioned, addind, her mother went to the nursey and asked about the baby. She was told that no baby was brought there.

The mother of new-born baby said, it was all pre-planned, “the nurse and her accomplices had plotted to steal my child.”

The hospital administration could also be involved because the CCTV cameras were turned off at the time of abduction, Sobia said.

She added that Ahmed is their second child, the first child died. She had a C-section to save the second child.

The father of the newborn Ahmed mentioned that there was no guard present at the hospital gate.

The SSP Central Maroof Usman said that after the incident, the police immediately arrested three persons from the hospital, including two female staff, who are being interrogated.

He said that 32 cameras are installed in the hospital and it was a strange coincidence that all the cameras were closed at the time of incident.

He said that the police had carried out geo-fencing of the incident and it would take some time to come to a conclusion. The SSP said that the police were investigating the incident and soon both the women would be arrested and the child would be recovered.
