Says ex-PM’s ‘theft’ in 16 foreign accounts has been exposed

PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday lashed out at PTI chairman Imran Khan saying the ex-premier wanted to file a reference against the chief election commissioner (CEC) because he was about to be sentenced in the foreign funding case.

Addressing a press conference in the federal capital, the PML-N leader accused Imran of lying to the nation for the last four years.

“The man sitting on the premier’s chair was lying so that no one could question his performance,” she said.

"Imran Khan wants a reference against the chief election commissioner so that the foreign funding case does not get decided within a month," she added. "But they (PTI) cannot do anything now as the cases are set to be decided within the next 30 days."

Last week, the Islamabad High Court had ordered the ECP to decide the foreign funding case within a month.

The case, which is pending since November 14, 2014, was filed by disgruntled PTI founding member Akbar S Babar, who alleged serious financial irregularities in the party’s funding from Pakistan and abroad.

During the presser, Marriyum said that Imran's "theft" had been exposed as the 16 foreign funding accounts that he “hid” had now come to the fore.

The PML-N leader alleged that funding for cancer hospital went to PTI’s accounts.

"An amount of $7 million pertaining to the foreign funding was not declared," she said, adding that PTI leader Asad Umar had filed a petition against the funding documents to be made public.

She asked whether Imran now would accuse the CEC of hatching a conspiracy against him.

She said the foreign funding case contained documented evidence of Imran's "crimes" and asked the former premier to “suspend his campaign against state institutions”.

"An amount of over Rs20 million was transferred to personal accounts."

On January 4 this year, an ECP scrutiny committee report had unearthed that the party had concealed several accounts and around Rs310 million between 2008 and 2013 from the electoral body.

The election supervisor had further disclosed that the PTI received $44,000 from 88 foreign donors during this period.
