MURREE:

A spokesperson for Kohsar University Murree has rebuffed reports regarding the closure of its Jhika Gali campus terming it as baseless and misleading while maintaining that the rumours have nothing to do with reality.

The spokesman said that the university is currently providing excellent higher education facilities to more than 700 BS and more than 1000 intermediate students, while the third semester of BS students was in progress.

“Shifting is a routine practice in different campuses of different faculties in terms and it is a strategy made on administrative grounds,” he said, adding that because of a large number of CS students at present, the Jhika Gali campus of Kohsar University has been shifted to larger premises with spacious labs and classrooms.

This shifting of the campus has been misrepresented by some elements for baseless propaganda, the spokesman said, adding that the shifting of the campus from Punjab House is falsely portrayed on social media and points to malicious propaganda, he said.

The number of university students will reach 1500 by next semester for which buildings and space are definitely a big issue. “Under the University Act, the entire Punjab House was given to the University but in practice, only the building of S Block was given to the University.

The university spokesperson demanded from the federal and provincial governments that the Punjab House be handed over to the university in its entirety,” he said.

In addition, the 86 kanals land of Murree Brewery given under the University Act should also be handed over to the university to accommodate more than 700 present students and thousands of future students, he said.
