PM Shehbaz looks forward to expanding 'longstanding friendship' with UK

Shehbaz thanks British premier for his felicitations following his move into office

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday thanked the premier of the United Kingdom for his message of felicitation after Shehbaz was voted in as the 23rd prime minister of Pakistan.

The Pakistani premier took to his official Twitter account and stated that Pakistan and the UK share “deep-rooted and broad-based ties”.

He resolved to work closely with the British government to further expand the countries’ "longstanding friendship" and take the “multifaceted relationship” to the next level.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on his election as premier.

In a tweet, he said the United Kingdom and Pakistan have a longstanding relationship and that the nations’ people share deep ties.

He expressed hope for working together on areas of shared interests.

British High Commissioner to Pakistan Christian Turner, shared Johnson’s tweet on his Twitter handle, saying that he looked forward to working with the new government. He also thanked former prime minister Imran Khan for his cooperation with the British High Commission.

“UK & Pakistan matter to each other. I thank @ImranKhanPTI & his government for all their cooperation with @UKinPakistan; and look forward to working with @CMShehbaz & the new government to build on our 75 year strong partnership,” Turner tweeted.
