ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government has been toppled through the vote of no confidence but former special assistant to the prime minister on poverty alleviation Dr Sania Nishtar has convened a board meeting of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) on Tuesday (today).

Sania will preside over the board meeting.

The Express Tribune asked her whether she would be able to chair the board meeting after the fall of the government.

Sania replied, “My post as the special assistant has ended but I will chair the board meeting as the BISP chairperson. The decision on whether to resign or not will be made after the meeting.”

Sania was asked that after the fall of the previous government, all the former ministers, special assistants and advisers have been de-notified. In such a case, could she chair the meeting?

Sania replied that in the previous government, she had two roles, one as a special assistant and the other as the BISP chairperson.

“Now, after the fall of the government, my post as special assistant has come to an end. However, I am still the BISP chairperson. I will chair the board meeting on Tuesday as the chairperson.”

To another question if she would continue her work as the chairperson or resign.

Sania replied that the decision would be taken after the board meeting.
