Security of parliament beefed up amid no-trust session

ISLAMABAD:

Security around the Parliament premises was beefed up on Saturday and the red zone was cordoned off as the National Assembly resumed its session to conduct a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Imran Khan. 

According to officials, only Margalla Road would be kept open for those going to the Parliament. Heavy contingents of police and Rangers had been deployed on the Red Zone routes. Security has also been tightened at all entrances of Islamabad.

The crucial National Assembly session called to vote on the no-confidence motion that could seal the fate of Prime Minister Imran Khan commenced at 10:30 am today. The session was adjourned soon after PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi took the floor after ruckus from opposition benches.

Amidst the NA session, the entry of unauthorized persons has also been blocked. However, former MNAs, MPAs, and government advisors would be allowed to enter the Parliament.

Containers have been used to block the roads leading to the Parliament from Nadra Chowk, Jinnah Avenue, Serena Chowk and Ordi Chowk.
