The Punjab Ministry of Education has announced that all schools, public and private must form school councils to examine the performance of the examination system, fee system, and teaching methodology.
A formal notification has also been issued in this regard. The Department of School Education stated that the school council will comprise seven members. The principal will be the chairman of the school council and teachers, parents and educators will be members of the council. Moreover, in high schools, it will be mandatory to have a teacher from the primary section as a member of the council besides a member that the secretary of education shall appoint at their discretion.
As per the notification, one member will be appointed by the District Education Authority. The school council will be elected for two years and meetings must be held once a month. Complaint boxes will be placed at the main gate of schools and all complaints will be passed on to the school council members.

Complaints of parents regarding violence, sexual harassment will be resolved under the supervision of the school council. The school council will also keep a record of the budget, including curricular and extracurricular activities of the school.
The education department official said, “Private schools that do not form school councils will have their registrations cancelled. The establishment of the council will help in improving the quality of educational institutions.”
He added that after Eidul Fitr, the establishment of these councils will be started under the supervision of District and Tehsil Administrative Officers and Assistant Education Officers.
