Sindh Minister for livestock and fisheries, Abdul Bari Pitafi has said that a campaign to vaccinate cattle against lumpy skin disease (LSD) has been kicked off from Cattle Colony.
Addressing the press at the Sindh Assembly committee room, Pitafi said, the vaccine has been imported within a month of the outbreak of LSD. Unconfirmed news on social media about LSD has caused damages to related businesses.
He said, "LSD was reported on March 4 and taking immediate action we informed the Centre sought permission to import the vaccine. But there was a delay on part of the Centre. However, we succeeded in getting the permission and imported the vaccine. Although, three to four companies were registered in Pakistan, we imported the vaccine at cheaper rate. So far, we have received 1.1 million doses and the cost of vaccine has been borne by the Sindh government."

He said the vaccine was being distributed and administered free of cost. Sick animals will not be vaccinated and suck animals will be kept away from the herd. The disease was more prevalent in Karachi.
He said as many as 1,045 vaccinators have been deputed to vaccinate the cattle in the province within 20 days.
A total of four million doses were ordered, out of which 1.1 million doses have already been received from Turkey, the minister said.
