Official says stopping smuggling challenging task

The District Food Department has set up three checkposts at three different interprovincial routes in Taxila to stop the smuggling of wheat and atta to other districts especially bordering districts of Khyber- Pakhtunkhawa.

Assistant Food Controller Aabid Ijaz Khan while briefing the media on Tuesday said that on the directions of Rawalpindi Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal, the District Food Department has established checkposts at all the routes leading to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to stop the inter-provincial smuggling of wheat. Responding to a question, he said that controlling the smuggling of wheat flour has become a challenging task and the food department officials have been put on alert to stop this practice.

He added that the food department has deployed the officials concerned, union councils officials, and police officials at all check posts.

The staff will perform duty round the clock, he said, adding that flour bags at subsidised rates are regularly supplied to Ramazan bazaars besides fair price shops to provide this basic commodity to the public and curb artificial price hikes and black marketing
