Effective crime-busting steps being taken in Korangi

KATI representatives inform senior police officials of their fears

KARACHI:

Effective strategies are being formed to control rising street and other crime in the Korangi Industrial Area over the coming days. Steps will be taken under an effective strategy to curb such incidents.

"Every possible protection will be provided to industrialists of Korangi Industrial Zone," said DIG East Muqaddas Haider. He was addressing industrialists at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI).

Muqaddas Haider said the new strategy would tackle rising crime and ensure that people associated with the industrial sector could be protected. "Use of ice and other drugs has increased. Korangi has a stable crime rate, while the rest of the incidents have decreased."

Earlier, KATI President Salman Aslam welcomed DIG East Muqaddas Haider and said that more than 1.5 million people are employed in Korangi Industrial Area. He said that SSP Korangi was giving his full support.

Salman Aslam said that there is uneasiness among industrialists due to the rising trend of street crimes. "The crime rate has risen alarmingly. Criminal elements often carry out crimes in the evening and escape," he stressed. Aslam added that with the cooperation of the police and people, street and other crimes can be eradicated.

KATI CEO Zubair Chaya said Mehran Town had become a hotbed of crime. He suggested that the investigation staff may be shifted to Korangi Town to aid the acquisition of concrete evidence against criminals. He said that due to a lack of investigation, criminals escape punishment.

"Liaison between SHOs and SIUs should be enhanced so that investigations can be carried out effectively and criminals can be punished quickly."

On the occasion, Standing Committee Chairman Danish Khan said it was possible to eliminate the occupation mafia in Mehran Town by identifying it. He said that patrolling should be increased in the morning and evening hours of Ramazan.

"There is also an increase in the rate of street crimes and snatching before Eid and this phenomenon should be preempted through effective planning."

SSP Korangi Faisal Bashir Memon said that other issues, including law and order, would be resolved on a permanent basis after consultation with industrialists of KATI. He said the officers were taking all possible steps to maintain law and order in the city on the instructions of their superiors.
