As many as 450 bicyclists participated in races organised on the Ring Road. The participants included a large number of children and women.
Lahore Division Commissioner Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman termed it a big day for the cycling community of Lahore. He said the competition must be made an annual event.
“The cycling community wanted to compete on the main road and this had been made possible by holding the professional competitions on Lahore Ring Road,” he added.
The commissioner said there was generally less traffic on Saturdays and Sundays, so a30-kilometre track was earmarked for the cycling competition on the Ring Road. Cyclists from all Punjab clubs participated in 10 categories of the competition.
He said the administration would strive to make the roads of Lahore cycling-friendly to promote the healthy habit.
All the relevant agencies, including police and Rescue 1122, also offered their services for such activities, he added.
The races were divided in 10 categories.
The cyclists who took part in the amateur category covered a distance of 30km Eight women competed in the professional category.
Children covered a distance of 4km in the under-12 category. Girls competing in the under-14 category covered a distance of 4km.
The commissioner distributed cash prizes and shields among the winners of all categories.
In the professional male race, Syed Aqib came first, Abid Siddique second and Talal Khan third. In the professional women's competitions, Rabia Garib came first, Naila Jafri second and Kunza Malik third.
